“ A massively bright space object crash landed on Earth over the weekend, lighting up the evening sky "like fireworks" over several southern states as it descended. The American Meteor Society (AMS) said it received reports of over 50 sightings in Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana and Florida of a massive fireball flying through the early morning skies around 4:30 a.m. CT on Friday.
“AMS also shared multiple accompanying videos and photos from witnesses captured by dashcams and doorbell cameras on its site. Most described seeing brief flashes of green, blue, orange and yellow in the sky at the time. It was incredible, very large, reported one witness from Gulfport, Miss. It was still the size of a car when it went behind the trees. Several witnesses said the meteorite was the largest and brightest they had ever seen. Seen falling stars but nothing like this, reported one witness from Frankston, Texas. It was very clear and very vivid. I could see the heat coming off front circling around in a flame and trailing a trail of fire behind its path. Another witness from New Orleans said they were greatly moved by the event.
“The magnitude of what I saw had me bracing for a catastrophic event," they reported. "I was driving on a freeway when it happened and found myself looking for a mushroom cloud or Armageddon. One person in Cheneyville, La. said the meteorite appeared to have fallen in some nearby fields, though where it landed has not been confirmed. While they didn't feel an explosion, another witness from Louisiana couldn't help but emphasize its sheer luminosity. There wasn't an explosion that I am aware of but there was a flash, a flash that is a lot like fireworks going off that lights up everything for a brief moment, they reported from Baton Rouge. One witness from Elsanor, Ala. said they almost cried after spotting the bright flash. I have never seen anything like it at all," they reported. "This was no shooting star. This was something much bigger and outstanding. I cannot even describe the spectacle it was.
